The Cooper's Hawk ID is correct, but more specifically it is an Accipiter of which there are 3 species here in Ontario.
Good yard bird for the winter months.

It appears to be a male Cooper's Hawk.

This is a Cooper's Hawk. His smaller look alike, the Sharp-shinned hawk, would not go for a pigeon. Both enjoy hanging out at backyard bird feeders.
