Robin in Winter

Are the Robins back too soon?

It's February 6, 2011 and there was a large flock of perhaps 80 birds in our backyard.

Can they really survive until spring (or maybe they know something we don't!)?

I don't know, I wonder if any other readers have spotted any "early birds" this year?

Early spring
by: Cathy

We have had a robin at our heated bird bath for two days now. I don't know what they would be eating right now to survive. I put out some grape jelly and dried cranberries. It's only Feb..6

Robin seen today
by: Patti M

I have a Robin in my back yard today, February 8, 2016. I wanted to post a picture but this page doesn't have a way to do that. S/he has been sitting in the trees (Breithaupt Park) all day now. It doesn't seem right somehow. I hope they will all be okay.

Sighting of Robins in Etobicoke

February 1st 2016, and all of a sudden a flock of Robins is feeding on the left over berries on the ash tree in my back yard. Never seen them this early, must be the warm winter that has them coming up.

I just looked out my window to see a Robin perched on my cedar tree eating the cedar fruit. He flew off to sit on my fence and stretch his wings. -20c something here today so hope he makes it until spring.

by: Laura

It is December 22/2012 and I am looking out my window at a Robin as I type this!! My husband and I can't believe it!!

Wow! I wonder if this bird is a late-leaver, an early-arriver, or one that stayed behind because of an injury?

Where are they?
by: Lorey Blackmore

Has any one seen any Robins in the Kitchener area?

Hi Lorey - no one has reported seeing any yet, but it is still early and the Robins usually arrive in Southern Ontario at the beginning of March - the ones that have been seen in February and are very unusual.

Huge flock of Robins along Lake Ontario
by: brian

My wife and I were driving along Lakeshore Road today between Port Hope and Newcastle.

We were just west of the Wesleyville Road when we sighted a huge flock of Robins along the ground by the road.

There had to be over a hundred birds there. It was interesting to see this time of year....

We have Robins too!

We saw many about 10 days ago in the snow.

Today they are up against our home and we wonder if they are trying to keep warm.

What are they doing here?

I don't know why they are here so early this year and I wonder how they will manage to find food this early, and with this much snow on the ground. If any of our readers have ideas for feeding these Robins, who normally eat worms and such, please let us know. I was wondering if suet would be a good, high calorie food for them? What do you think?

Thanks for letting us inow - you're not the only ones to see Robins this past week or so - we have had four of our readers report seeing them in the Niagara / Toronto area
