Large Coyote

by Cindy
(Hamilton aream, Ontario)

Earlier today around 12.30 this afternoon, January 3, 2012, I saw the biggest Coyote I have ever seen.

It was in the land behind our home that is in a Subdivision north of Hamilton.

At first I thought it was a deer from a distance because it was so tall, but then I could see the big furry tail as it ran closer into view it was running across the field obviously chasing something.

Both myself and my small dog turned and started back instead of continuing our walk, and I picked up a rock for protection just in case.

I have heard many stories lately of Coyotes taking dogs of porches and off property in our area, and also a girl, so I guess we will keep out of the woods and fields in the future.

Never was afraid of Coyotes before, but they seem to be getting more plentiful and dangerous.

I am not sure what the hunting season is on them and I do not like to see animals killed, but maybe there should be more hunting since they seem to be getting to plentiful and dangerous.

Also saw a large Coyote!

I too live in a subdivision North of Hamilton and my Wife and I saw a very large Coyote last Sunday afternoon in the field behind our house. It wasn't in a big hurry so I was able to get a good close up look at him with my Binoculars. It appeared to be between 40-50 lbs and as tall as a German Shepherd. This isn't the first one I have seen in the daytime this winter.

Regarding Large Coyote in Hamilton Ontario

I also live in a subdivision North of Hamilton and I saw a German Shepherd sized Coyote in the field behind my house on the weekend. Thank goodness that they seem to stay out in the fields. Must be enough mice and rabbits out there to keep them out of our small subdivision.

Regarding Large Coyote in Hamilton Ont
by: Cindy Morton

I understand your concern and thank God you were not hurt and your dog is safe. I live in the city near a creek, ravines and parks. Our neighbourhood has many Coyotes roaming around on sidewalks in parks where children play.

I called our MP in the area and my reply was over the holiday they were flooded with calls about the coyote issue. What I don't understand is The Ministry of Natural Resources knows of this issue and has been informed by MPs, but refuses to do anything.

We are not asking the Government to kill our wild life, but to relocate them, knock them out with a dart or what ever they need to do, just take them to a better place not walking around city streets.
