Coyote Crossing

Large paw print

Often in St. Catharines Ontario I take my power chair and travel the pathway through Centennial Gardens Park, which travels around the stream (the site of one of the Old original canals).

Today I was taking a few nature pictures, one of which was a large paw print. I thought, Okay a big dog came through because I often see people walk their dogs along this path.

It was about 3:30 in the afternoon May 4, 2012, well as I neared the far end of the path about 3/4 of the way around the path from the actual gardens, I saw a Cardinal and was sitting still in my chair, to try and capture a picture of it.

I looked up just in time to see a Coyote pass the foot-path in front of me, it glanced my way and continued on into the trees.

I gently turned my chair around thinking how beautiful to see nature but at the same time I said a quick prayer asking God to keep me safe - I was glad the noise of my chair kept it away.

I realize these animals can be very dangerous.

I returned all the way back to where I had begun, and I still have that picture of the paw print, sadly I wasn't fast enough with the camera to get a picture of the Coyote itself.

Coyote feeding during the day
by: Anonymous

Looking out my back window in Carlisle to a open field with a small patch of woods, spotted a beautiful Coyote eating something large and dark in colour (rabbit/cat) at 10:00 a.m.

The very next day at 7:00 pm it was still day light, he came back to the exact spot, picked up something else to eat, I couldn't figure out what it was as it was smaller and white. A few gulps and it was gone. I went out to scare it off with a whistle, he jumped and scooted back to the woods.

Someone feeding it is my concern?? Or poison??

A few local cats have gone missing, and I hear the howls almost every night. I investigated the area of where the coyote came, thinking there could have been a rabbit nest..nothing out of the ordinary but neighbour's grass cuttings & leaves. Noticed a pile of long white feathers close by?

Local Courtcliffe park, I saw another coyote at 4:00pm watching the dog walkers, sitting up on the hill (thinking it was hidden). Many walkers have their dogs off leash, this should be posted as it is a huge concern for dog/cat lovers.

My concern is someone feeding or trying to poison these beautiful animals.

I now have my camera ready for the next viewing.
