BaldEeagle

Unless there is an Ontario hawk that has a "bald" head and quite resembles the Eagle, I think I saw an Bald Eagle flying over the Goderich golf course today February 19th 2011.

As I crested the hill into Goderich, I could not stop on the hill but almost drove off the road craning my neck!

I had spotted, I thought, a hawk midair just near the railing high over the Maitland golf course.

I saw more hawks last year than I ever remember. And some falcons I believe, too, near Stratford.

Then I saw a white or creamy head. I couldn't look closer.

Until I googled just now I had no idea there were Eagles in Ontario and that in fact they were here long ago when settlers moved in. And I grew up in the area.

Now I am in Toronto but am "home" regularly.

Is there a hawk that looks like an eagle? I couldn't gauge by size as it was midair.

Probably an Eagle

You likely spotted a Bald Eagle. I have seen two around the Orangeville are in the last two years. They are apparently breeding and spreading rather quickly.

Hi Shelly!

You probably did see an Eagle - no hawk is that big and has a white head!

I live in London and I see them quite regularly - I have posted some pictures here - I'm including a link so you can see for yourself.

Keep your camera handy - if you've seen it there chances are you'll see it in the same general area again.

It really is quite the feeling, isn't it?
