Wood Ducks

Wood Ducks showing off in Grenadier Pond, High Park, Toronto.

I have been told that these beautiful males will lose their colour in summer and become rather drab.

Also, they may not be able to fly during that period, due to the loss of flight feathers.

Thanks for sending this to us, Marinus, and I know I have published it here previously, but your picture is lovely so I will also post this on our Facebook page so that our Facebook followers can also enjoy your wonderful picture.

Wood Duck - Grenader Pond
by: Turtlesrule

Saw a very proud Wood Duck in the pond today! The colours were magnificent, with the sun shining on his beautiful feathers. His white lines looked like they had been drawn on and his sides a beautiful burgundy. What a nice treat to see after suffering from this long cold winter. He was so proud skirting around the pond!
