Short Eared Owl Dinnertime

Short Eared Owl

Short Eared Owl

I saw a Short Eared Owl around 6:30 pm, our dinnertime, and apparently theirs as well.

The bird was flying about 20 feet off the ground just outside the small forest that surrounds the fresh water marsh in our neighbourhood.

It had something in it's talons so it looked like hunting had been successful.

I was surprised because I didn't think Owls were around in the daytime, but when I looked up the description in Peterson's, it fit.

Crow sized, streaked brown and white, large owl head.

Made my day!
