Ron from Ballinafad wrote to say ... the back motion sensor light came on and I expected to see racoons or maybe a skunk. This funny looking guy sniffed around and I though that might actually be a Possum. I went to look it up and ended up on this site. We're actually near Ballinafad (north of Georgetown) and wanted to report the sighting.

Jim Thomas from Stouffville wrote ... I spotted my first possum during the early-morning hours of Sept 26th last year. He (or she) was eating sunflower seeds beneath our backyard bird feeder. It seemed quite tame, concentrating on a liberal supply of food. It was accompanied by an adult raccoon that, eventually chased it away. It appeared harmless, so harmless I'll gladly welcome it back.

Last fall one of our readers from Northeast Scarborough said ... we caught a possum in our live-catch trap last night, instead of the pesky raccoon! Just let it go again. Hope it will survive the winter.

Jim Brodie wrote to say ... we live in Unionville, Ontario near Major Mackenzie and Kennedy Road and while I had heard about sightings in our neighbourhood, I didn't see one until early this morning. On Sunday Sept 13 last year, I saw the Possum from a third story window of our town house and with a powerful flashlight was able to see clearly the contours of this fairly large animal with the distinctive tail and snout. I would say it was close to three feet long. They have eaten a few of my tomatoes and seemed to have chewed a patch of grass, but that is the extent of it. They also defecated under my Dahlias. Otherwise, no problem.

One of our readers said ... Barrie, Ontario, early September 2020 at 6:00 am we saw a large possum walking across our lawn.

Ree from Toronto said ... I spotted a beautiful possum in downtown Toronto around midnight when walking my dog. It just sat at the foot of the stairs looking around. So pretty.

One of our readers reported a cute surprise visitor ... I can't send you a picture, I didn't get one but I had one outside my apartment window. I put out food for the stray cats and racoons. The little guy helped himself, I didn't know what it was at first. I live in East York, Ontario and I'm sure it was one of those who came up from Virginia.
Lauren from Leaside, Toronto, had a night-time visitor ... we have a cute little guy or girl, who comes by late at night, and enjoys leftover food from the dog bowls on our back deck! So cute — I’ve witnessed this visitor 3 times this summer after never having seen one in my lifetime! The photos of them carrying their babies on their back is to die for! Love these little guys!

Constance from Brighton had a new backyard experience ... the backyard sensor light was triggered, but instead of a cat or raccoon, we were pleasantly surprised to see a large opossum.

Olivia from Burlington wrote ... my dog received a surprise when she went to our back yard at midnight ... a possum! I quickly called my dog back as I wasn't sure what it was at first from the distance. First time I have ever seen one in my life.

Brenda from London, Ontario said ... I was taking puppy and older dog out to pee at 11:00 pm. The Possum was on our deck and the Older dog barked at it and the possum just stopped. I called my dog off and the possum took off into the bushes. This happened January 3 2021. I live in a home that backs onto green space and in 11 years I have never seen one.

Nancy Barton from Tottenham reported ... we let our dogs out last night for their final evening outing and they spotted an oppossum sitting on the fence in our back yard. We also had one visit very early in the morning a week ago. I am wondering if it is visiting the bird feeders or gathering seeds that are on the ground.

Jeannie from Guelph wrote ... I'm sorry I have no pics, the sighting happened very quickly. I had no idea at first what I saw, he was at the cat food I put out for my neighborhood feline friend. Very surprised when I realized what he was. I wish there was something I could do for them. The article above is heartbreaking and I didn’t know they are unwilling transplants. I hope he does well in our neighborhood.

Susan Spagnuolo from Aurora wrote to say ... I feed the birds and squirrels in my backyard. I spotted a mother possum and a small baby possum eating seeds at the back of my yard late evening during October 2020 this year. I live in Aurora, Ontario. I also sighted a large possum in my yard on December 9, 2020. There is a forested area not far from my home. I have lived in this area now for twenty years and these are the first sightings. Beautiful creatures. Was not able to get a photo yet.
