by Jane Stott
(Rideau Ferry, ON)

September 11, 2012. I came across a pair of Whistling / Tundra Swans on a small lake off Big Rideau Lake yesterday afternoon.

I have never seen them here before.

Magnificent birds!

Swans at Rideau Mac Resort
by: Monique Backs

I am situated along the Big Rideau Lake (Rideau Mac Resort) near Narrow Locks. The swans visit us all the time. They walk around on our lot and even make their way to our deck, if it wasn't for the gate they probably would come right on the deck. This year there were four babies, one was rejected from the family and they attacked it, I'm assuming it is now dead. Last week another baby had a broken wing. The next day when the family showed up that baby was missing. I'm wondering what happened to it. I have plenty of pictures of the swan. My husband and I are wondering who to contact when swans are in distress?

Perhaps you could contact the MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) when you see the birds in distress - they may be able to take a look and help.
