Audrey,
Sorry I didn't get your message earlier. A group of cousins have been working on the family tree together through a private Facebook page and saw you had commented on my post. My post was from June 2016 and read:
I am trying to find out more about Abisha Baldwin who was the father of Ida Minetta Baldwin. He married Mary Ann Waterson on 26 Jan 1859 when he was 27 and she was 16. He lists his parents as Jesse [Baldwin] and Catherine [Clapp]. She lists her parents as Joseph and Elizabeth.
In the 1871 Census they are living in Elgin East with their two daughters Ida Minetta age 11 and Frances age 8.
I would be interested in sharing information.

Got that connection to Colonel Merritt wrong! His father was my Grandfather's cousin, not my Grandmother!

Hi Darrin
by: Audrey Doyle

Unfortunately these names are not known to me It doesn't mean to say we aren't distantly related.

My Grandfather was Edward Bridgman Baldwin whose ancestors were originally from New England and made their way to Canada in the late 1700s after the American Declaration of Independence and were United Empire Loyalists.

My Grandmother was Annie South, a cousin of hers was the father of Colonel Cecil Merritt VC. Col. Merritt, as a POW was the Senior Allied Officer in Colditz.

My father was born in 1903, the second youngest of nine children. My brother and I are the youngest direct descendants of EB Baldwin and we are in our 60s.

As you would imagine all the Aunts and Uncles have died. However their names were

Leah Baldwin (married name Rose)
Maud Baldwin (died in her teens in 1921)
Nellie Baldwin married name Taylor
Charles Baldwin
Merritt Baldwin (died as a young child)
Ethel Baldwin (married name Jasper)
Edith Baldwin (married name Roberts)
Walter Baldwin ( our dad, died 1958)
Alice Baldwin (died early 1950s)

It would be interesting to know if any of these names ring a bell with you.

Ida Minetta Baldwin married my relative Lohn Gillard, then moved with her spouse to Hamilton, Ontario, back in the early 1900's. Ida was born in 1860 to her father Abisha Baldwin. Do you know these people?
