Flamborough Coyotes

by Gayle & Jay
(West Flamborough, Ontario)

Gayle said ..... On February 16th at 7:15 a.m. a Coyote walked across our front lawn and headed for Middletown Road, we live on the 5th concession west.

I also heard Coyotes the night before in the backyard.

Jay from Flamborough also sent us his report of Coyotes on Patrol North of Hamilton, he says ..... I live in a subdivision north of Hamilton and I have seen three Coyotes during the day in the last month or so. Most recently my wife and I saw a large Coyote (looked 40-50lbs and tall) in the field behind our house. He wasn't in a hurry and I was able to get good close up look with my Binoculars. He was much bigger then the others I have seen.

Also it's quite apparent that one is patrolling the back of the house in the night based on tracks I see in the snow. That I can understand as its the middle of the night but is it common to see them out mid-day?

Wolf or Coyote cross attack
by: Warner

On Sunday November 23 in broad daylight around 8:00 am near the barn / house - our Golden Retriever (neutered male) was attacked by a large Shepherd-size Wolf-Coyote cross with the second one coming into the fight from the woods. We live just north of Carlisle on a horse farm, thankfully alerted by the other 2 farm dogs I was able to frantically scream and jump around (I was 100 feet away or so) and this broke the hold and the beasts ran back across the field. The one stood its ground and stared over at myself and our Golden before it ran. It was very fit, healthy looking shape and fur, dark / silver / gray, small perked ears and both average 80 - 90 pounds - the Golden is 60 - 65 lb He is cut and shaken but he seems okay. These are bold beasts. This morning carcass of half a rabbit found on a path near the house - going to try to get some Wolf urine for farm and area perimeter (to discourage them).

Two Coyotes in Grand Vista Gardens, Flamborough
by: Phil & Gill

At 8:30 am on February 10, 2014, we saw two large Coyotes crossing the snow in our back yard. They looked to be in good condition. They were following deer tracks across the yard and disappeared into a wooded section of our neighbour's property. There are frequently deer in our neighbourhood, so we wondered if they were tracking deer and planning to attack one of them.

Coyote Attack
by: Anonymous

Hi my name is Paul an I live in Carlisle off concession 8. Over the last two weeks I have heard the Coyotes almost every night, even had a Wolf or Coywolf run in front of my car around 6:30, as the days are getting shorter they are coming out earlier. Me and my family were sitting at dinner and my dog was outside, we live across from Dragons Fire Golf Course and my sister looked out the window an said it looks like Lucy has found some friends. I looked and instantly jumped out of my seat like a mad man and ran outside into the field, bare feet an all! My dog was being approached by about 6 - 7 Coyotes from all different angles and we could see them all as it was open fiel. As soon as I ran outside and got close to my dog all the coyotes ran away in different directions and my dog ended up chasing them, she never got attacked but if I didn't run outside she could have been gone.

Coyote in the day
by: Anonymous

On March 7 returning from walking my dogs at 1:00 pm there was a coyote in the field in front of my house. Old Brock and Spencer Creek Road in the closest intersection. He did not run away. I always hear them in the evening. Then yesterday at 3:30 my son was out playing with a friend and yelled "Mom, Coyote!". I couldn't believe seeing the Coyote 2 days in day light. He wasn't in a hurry and we watched him for about 15 minutes. We've only lived here for a year, and I'm not sure what to do. We live very close to Spencer Valley School.
