Coyotes & White Wolf in Barrie and Innisfil

(Barrie and Innisfil)

Our first sighting was in Innisfil in 2009 just of 7th line/Nantyr Drive I was shoveling the drive at 4.30 am and I saw what I thought was a dog. I looked at it and then it came towards me - I banged the snow shovel but it still came towards me, so I ran into the garage. It was a Coyote.

Again in 2009 I took my husband to the Go Train in Barrie south end. I was coming out of St Pauls and just after the last house before Lockhart Road a Coyote ran out across the road.

Barrie – 2011 In the south end of Barrie behind Camelot Square in the Ravine, most nights you can hear the Coyotes howling for hours, I've never seen one, just heard them.

Innisfil – 2013 Just of 5th Line Innisfil. A pack of three Coyotes would walk and howl outside our bedroom window most nights and they strolled in front of the house and down the lane.

Same house and time - A huge white Wolf walked behind our house in the early afternoon as we lived at a farm. All the family saw it. Pure white, too big to be a Coyote or Coy-wolf.

Barrie - Mapleview / Prince William Way - 2014 Heard several howling Coyotes most nights and further down the Mapleview towards Innisfil 25th sideroad saw a Coyote walking, it did not seem afraid. I was in the car.

Thanks for letting us know about all your Coyote and Wolf sightings!

White Wolf
by: Stephanie

I was driving my school bus. I had no students on at the time and passed what I thought was a large white dog. After I passed by I realized it was a wolf. Not a coyote. It was very large. I did not get a picture as I did not have time to stop. This was on the 13th concession near the farther entrance of Copland creek in Tiny Township. I was so mad at myself for not stopping to take a picture after I looked up exactly what a white wolf looks like.

White Wolf in Midland
by: MetalQueen

Streak of white lightening up our street in Bramhall!
We have oodles of wildlife from raccoons, bunnies, foxes and our stars of the show, coyotes, wolves and coywolves. They get quite large when you live at the edge of a nature reserve and farms - plenty to eat. Not to mention the viscous Fisher. Last Monday the moon lit up our usually dark street quite nicely. In the wee hours of morning I notice this movement at the bottom of our hill and in moments this brilliant snow white Wolf was at the top of the hill glancing back. Chills I tell ya, Chills!!
I have never witnessed such ease with speed he was so stealth like you would not hear him coming.
What a fortunate sighting, although unnerving !

Howling in the night

Wolves or coyotes were behind our houses fighting and howling. What a sound, truly amazing. I guess the frequent the area since there are a lot of turkeys around. It’s Mapleview and Prince William Way.

Coywolf at Prince William across from Saint Gabriel School

Yesterday morning saw a very tall and very large Coywolf standing on road and walking slowly as he watched my truck stop.
It was very brazen and not afraid at all. He continued to walk away crossfire street and travelling out on the ice in little pond.
He was much bigger than a Coyote as I have seen many Coyotes in the wild in Ontario and ova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Coywolf siting in Allandale
by: Miller

Saw three Coyotes or possible Coywolves running up an Allandale Heights neighbourhood street Briar Rd at 11:30 pm Thursday, October 27,2016. They looked right at me and continued up the street followed by at least 2 more. Though it was a dog at first, then thought it was a Wolf, then figured Coyotes.

Wolves in Barrie area

I'm sure that you are familiar with the town named Elmvale if you live in Barrie. I lived about a mile outside of there with my family when I was a child. Just down the street from the Elmvale Zoo. We always knew and expected to see and hear Wolves and Coyotes so, I don't understand why it's such a surprise to encounter them in the Barrie area. I'm sure that it's unnerving and you should be careful around them. Here in Scarborough and the Beach area in Toronto, which is close to me, we have problems with Coyotes. One would think that it would be unusual but, we are near the bluffs. The white "wolf" could have been a white German Shepherd or mix with a Wolf. My friend had a mix and it looked like a purebred Wolf but just a white GSD would do and would be larger than a Coyote for sure. My GSDs are always being confused with Wolves by people. I've had people walk up to me and ask if they're Wolves. But that could be because we had a Wolf / Husky / German Shepherd hybrid living here that someone had as a pet for a while. Never the less though as strays, they can all be dangerous so get away from them as soon and as cautiously as you can. Move slowly and don't turn your back on them.
