Coyotes in Waterloo, ON

(Waterloo, Ontario)

The last 2 nights we have heard coyotes outside of our home at the edge of Waterloo, near the dump, golf courses and farm land.

At first I thought the neighbour's dogs were getting in a fight, but listening closer it sounded like a bunch of pups yipping and howling.

Then I played the video here and it was exactly the same sound. It lasted for about a minute.

Saw a large coyote off Erbsville near Wideman this morning around 7:15. At first I thought it was a small deer. It was big. It wandered across the street and into a field a hundred yards or so from the road and just stared curiously as I drove by.

Coyote pack
by: Anonymous

We live by Benjamin Road and Weber Street and this February 2023 have heard multiple coyotes in a pack yipping late in the evenings. Have seen them singular on the trans Canada trail in that area. Have also noted fewer rabbits this year. Keep your dogs on a leash.

I'm taking care of some feral cats in my backyard. The ones in the feral houses seem to be oblivious to the coyotes. But the cats coming down the hill to eat are like a rabbit hunt to the coyotes. I'm willing to defend the cats but the coyotes are too fast. All I can do is leave the back light on hoping it will timid the coyotes. Poor little Dr. Tickles.

Coyote or Wolf
by: Anonymous

About 1:30pm on December 29th, saw a dog-like animal run across the empty lot beside our back yard on the north side of Conservation Drive to the east of Erbsville Road. It's thick bushy tail and upright ears ticked me to think it might be a Wolf or Coyote.

Coyote Near R&T Park
by: Sawyer

About a month ago I woke up to head to UW early in the morning and I go outside and there's this dog on my front lawn just staring at me. So I call it like the smart person I am and it's just standing there. I slowly approached it but it ran off into the wheat-field behind my current house. Well the next day my landlord tells me the neighbors have spotted a wolf (which I believe was in fact a coyote) in the neighborhood and then I was like HOLY ____ I was 10 feet away from that thing and I though it was just a lost dog!

A couple of days later a combine went through the fields to harvest all of the wheat and that's when we spotted it again. It must have been living in the wheat field until the combine came by and took it all away. After that I assumed it had just went to live somewhere else and I'd never see it again.

Well fast forward about a month, bringing us to last night. At 5 in the morning I was awoken by a strange howling sound outside my window. I look outside and there was the coyote, standing in the field where it once lived howling by its lonesome self. I felt kind of sad for it. It's distinct howl sound is how I determined it was in fact a coyote and not a wolf. After that it just trotted along into the abyss. Hopefully I'll get to see it again soon.

Well that's my story.
