Is this a Sparrow of some kind?

Is this a Sparrow of some kind?

This pretty bird has been coming to my back yard and feeder for a couple of days now. I am not sure what it is! Does anyone here know what kind of bird this is?

House Finch

Thank you everyone - we found out that it is/was a young House Finch. Not too many of them this year though.

Finch

This bird is called a House Finch. You can tell by the streaking on the chest and how the red is restricted to the face and throat.

I think I can
by: judy

Judging by the little bit of red on his neck, I would think he is a Purple Finch. Or, a House Sparrow. You can Google either name, and you'll get plenty of pictures so you can tell for yourself.

I have seen your bird
by: colleen

I live in Mississauga and have a bird feeder. Today I saw a small sparrow-looking bird, but he had a reddish head, neck and chest. Not like the Robin. Wow!

Some ideas to start looking for an answer

Here are two sites that you can send your question to.

I suggest that you use the top one first as they respond back a lot faster. You will need to tell them where you saw the bird, what it eats, the other birds that it hangs out with and the song it calls with.

Oh and send them your picture as well!

Good luck and I hope this helps you :)
