Big Black Cat sightings across Ontario

Jim Robinson said ... While fishing on Eagle Lake in Ontario this past July, my son and I watched two, what we believe to be, Back Cougars walking up from the water as we approached the opposite side of Big Island. We would have thought they were Bear, by the size, but their tails were a dead giveaway.

One of our readers said ... I saw in rather large completely black cat during the morning 7 a.m. in the late summer. Very short to no tall with pointed ears. Most likely 12 to 20 inches long weighing probably 10 to 15 pounds. Downtown Port Perry, Ontario. Nobody but me was in the area. Cat stopped to look and listen to the birds chirping

David from Tottenham said ... recently this past weekend I was house hunting with my cousin on 10th side road in between Bond Head and Tottenham. When we arrived we parked and overlooked the land when my cousin asked me "What is that animal?" At first I didn’t see it, then he said again "What is that animal?" About 200-300 feet away along the ridge line of some trees what it looked like to me was a panther and what makes me think this was it was a black predator with a long tail. I caught more of a glimpse of the back end and then it was off into the bushes. It couldn’t have been anything else. My reaction was a black panther, or black mountain lion. The back muscles are what stood out to me and the long tail. It was one of those moments I wish I had a camera out.

Alain from Appin wrote ... I was 4 wheeling with my dog on my farm, coming up a side trail I saw a big black cat which must have been around 25 lbs. he was totally black, not scared of me I'm wondering if its a big barn cat?

Another reader said ... in May 2022 My dog was asking to use the bathroom around 4:00 am in rural Southern Ontario. I opened the door to let her out and she started going ballistic barking aggressively unlike normal. I look over after telling her to stop and notice a large black cat about 3 to 4x the size of my dog. I yanked her inside and slammed my door. To clarify my dog is about 20 pounds she's not tiny but she's not big either. It had yellow shinny eyes and if it wasn't for its eyes reflecting the light I probably wouldn't have noticed it right away. It didn't move when my dog barked at it. The big black cat just sat there watching from the shadow it was lurking in. Unfortunately by the time I got the courage to peek outside again it was long gone.
