Bald Eagle in flight

Our reader, John from London sent this report - I always thought it would be odd to see a Bald Eagle in the city, but on December 1, 2009 I was driving along Pond Mills road near the Wesmininster ponds, in London. I saw a large bird flying towards me, I had time to stop, get out of the car and watch a Bald Eagle eagle fly overhead.

Then just today, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 P.M., I was in Lambeth at the Copps' Buildall store when Janet (my wife) said to look up, we watched a single Bald Eagle fly directly over us about 30 feet up. Amazing site, smooth and graceful.

Wonderful - it seems as though the Bald Eagle is thriving nicely in this area - I just saw one on Wonderland Road, near the Guy Lombardo Bridge, about a week ago.

Flying along the 402
by: Janet V

I was driving along the 402 towards London and I saw a huge bird. I kept my eye on the road as the bird flew around and I saw the white head and tail.

I didn't think the Bald Eagle was over this far.

I knew they had returned to Peterborough, Ontario, in the late 1980's and I had seen them in Peterborough along the Trent River.

I think it fantastic they have made such a come back.

My wife works as a crossing guard on Riverside Drive West (near St. Anthony) here in London. She just came home and told me that she saw a Bald Eagle fly overhead about 4:00 pm this afternoon, it is February 8th, 2010.

Thanks for the information, Dan, if your wife sees it again, please let us know
