Black Timber Wolf

by Scott
(Peterborough)

We saw a large Timber Wolf (black) on the north side of the road as we were driving east between Merrickville and Kemptville (Ontario).

We quickly pulled the car over so that we could look back at this Wolf while it stood at the road side for a moment.

There was some snow on the ground and I'm pretty sure that this took place at about 4 - 5pm in the afternoon during the month of December.

It truly looked as wild as one might imagine but this Wolf had much longer legs than I would have expected.

I didn't have a camera with me but for rare sightings like this it really does pay to keep a camera in your car at all times!

That experience has certainly rekindled my interest in Wolves as I never thought that I'd see a Wolf during the day in southern Ontario now that most of the large forest areas have been fragmented by roads etc.
