Wolves in Stayner

I was walking my two dogs, a Maltese which weighs 4 pounds and a Yorkshire terrier who is 6 pounds on Sunday September 22 2013 around 8:00 - 8:30 pm

around the Stayner Recreational place, when I heard Wolves howling.

One seemed to be closer and louder, then I heard a few more, there are fields behind the recreational building.

We do have Coyotes around this area too, I hear them too on certain nights, but the sounds I heard were totally diffrent sounds than coyotes.

I took precaution for my two dogs and myself and walked back home.

My thought was the Wolves probably noticed my two dogs and could most likely have a sense of smell of my two small dogs. But we did get home safe and will most likely never walk that area again at night.

That's scary! You're right, the howl of a Wolf is different to the yipping of a Coyote - once you have heard them both, you know the difference!

Wolf seen in Stayner West
by: Todd Smith

I watched a large wolf from the front porch of my townhouse in the new Stayner West development on the southwest side of Airport Road. We hear them howling in the woods at night and we also hear the yipping of the coyotes as well in the woods over by the power lines. This wolf walked across the street and was sniffing the ground everywhere as many people walk their dogs through here. I yelled at it several times and it finally looked at me but just kept sauntering along. Very very big. For sure not a coyote! What kind of wolf is in this area?
