Wolf spotted in Wainfleet?

by Carrie
(Wainfleet, Ontario)

I just came back from my walk with my dogs that I do daily, down the friendship trail between Burnaby Road and Golf Course road and I saw a very large dog(?) walking at the edge of a bush and then stopping and watching me and my dogs for about 5 minutes, before it turned around and walked into the bush.

All I can say is that it was a very large dog. It looked greyish but I was 500ft away.

How large can a Coyote get, because I know we have many of them around?

Possible Wolf sighting
by: Anonymous

Hwy #3 near Burnaby. Three of us in the house have seen what looks to be a wolf within a week's time. Larger than a coyote, long fur, lone traveler.
Last summer we heard a few times just the long lonely howl... far different than a coyote's yipping.

Wolves in Wainfleet

When I was a child, probably about 20 years ago, my grandfather pointed out two wolves out in one of our fields off Forks Rd. There have been wolves in Wainfleet before so it’s possible we still have the odd wolf or two, but mostly now it’s coyotes and "coywolves"

Wolf spotted in Wainfleet

We were driving home on Forks Rd in Wainfleet on Saturday night at approximately 6:45pm, when a large white or silver Wolf jumped over the ditch on the left hand side, ran in front of us and jumped over the ditch on the right. We only saw the one wolf, not sure if there were others following behind. Very cool To see.

Wolf on Station Road
by: Lauren

I was just driving home from work, it's 3:30 am. As I pulled onto Station Road a very large whitish coloured Wolf ran in front on my car. On the other side of the road was a cat. The animal was way too big to be a Coyote, over 70 pounds for sure. After reading through the previous posts, all which are in this general area, I think its safe to say we do have a Wolf (or Wolves) in this area. There have been to many sightings over the last few years within a few streets of one another.

Small wolf-like animal spotted in Wainfleet
by: Anonymous

I was on my friend's farm yesterday morning and saw a smaller wolf-like dog walk out of the woods, sniff around and then proceed back into the woods. It was approx. 50-60lbs and white-gray in colour. It had a charcoal muzzle face and it looked more Arctic than a Coyote. I am not 100% sure but to me it looked more like a Wolf.

Morgan's Point

Hello - I've spent many years doing photography in forests and isolated areas so I know the silhouette and eye set of a wolf, tonight October 24 2016, I had spent about 4 hours shooting the night sky when rustling caught my ear. When I looked over my should, my flashlight caught the distinct wide face, long shout, and wide eye placement of a Wolf. I'm absolutely sure of this because within the same time 2 deer passed close to me. Needless to say I got spooked, but have full intentions of going back to try capture in picture. Fun night.

Large wild dogs in Wainfleet
by: Anonymous

We are in Wainfleet, Case Road and Feeder Road West. This morning we had three very large white dogs at Bush Line, they were well over 100 lbs. I have never seen them before in our area - they did look wild, can't be sure though.

Wolf?
by: Sandi

I was on the Gord Harry trail 4pm yesterday. I saw four Coyotes walk out on the trail 300 ft away. As I stopped to decide what to do (had pet dog with me) a fifth one had walked down the farmer's field toward me and popped out only 40 ft from me. It was very large and black. As big as a large German Shepherd with long legs. I yelled at him, but he just stood there looking at me. He finally wandered down to the rest. Very scary!

Wainfleet Wolf sighting?
by: Jenny

August 2014 - I live in Wainfleet and work in Port Colborne. When I was coming home from work at 7:30 am I had a large dog-like creature run out in front of my car on Highway #3 near Golf Course Road. It was too big to be a Fox and it even looked bigger and more built than a Coyote. It may have been a Wolf.

I live in Wainfleet, Ontario, and have seen this Wolf(?) on two occasions. Once walking our dog on the same trail from Burnaby Road to Station Road. It was on the path in front of us, just standing and watched us. It is very big and has long legs and it looked a lot bigger than my 86 lbs Lab, also very dark grey, almost blackish. A week before this sighting in my own yard I turned to see something that was moving at the side of our house and from behind the wood pile was same looking Wolf-Coyote(?). I turned to grab my dog and hold him and when I turned back it was gone. Its head was at the same height as wood pile, 3 ft at leas, much bigger than a normal Coyote.
