Tundra Swans near Grand Bend and Port Franks

Tundra Swan near Grand Bend

Tundra Swan near Grand Bend

Saturday, March 14, 2009 - the first of the migrating Tundra Swans have arrived south of Grand Bend. This should be a good year for them, as the large fields are quite flooded right now. The water is still slightly frozen, but should thaw today with the rising temperatures.

We also observed about 100 swans yesterday in the fields off of Greenway Road.

We have a cottage on the lake in Port Franks, and last night was a clear, starry night and we sat outside and made a fire, and listened to the swans fly overhead out to the lake where they spent the night on the open water.

This morning, we watched them take flight as they headed back to the fields to feed.

Hopefully, thousands will arrive in the next few days - they are a wonderful sight to behold!

For more information about the migrating Tundra Swans, check out the Tundra Swans section of our website.

Thank you for your contribution, Terry, and our readers will thank you too!
