Sighting White Squirrels in Picton Ontario

by Mary Lynn Horton
(Beamsville)

I wrote a comment about this but have added my story in this section as well.

About 10 years ago, in Picton, Ontario (Prince Edward County) my Mom asked me if I had ever seen a White Squirrel.

I thought she was kidding at first, but she told me that there was a section of road on Morrison Point Road near Picton with a hardwood forest that she has seen them.

So, next time I passed that forest, I kept a lookout and sure enough there was a White Squirrel! Well, sort of white, parts of it looked blondish around the tail.

But after that, we always watched and were rewarded by seeing them often. Especially in the fall when they were gathering nuts in the hardwood forest.

The area we always saw them would take up about 1 kilometer.

I still watch today, but after Mom died, we do not get there as often as before, so I have not seen a White Squirrel in about 3 years.

But, they do exist.

Mary Lynn

Thank you for another charming story!

I have never been fortunate enough to see a White Squirrel, but I am keeping my eyes open for them!
