Lucky Owl

I was driving along county road 8 between Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls.

It's about 6:30 at night and dark. I am alone and on my way home from a long day at work, looking forward to my evening meal and just putting my feet up.

Periodically cars passed by in the opposite lane. The country road is a two lane highway and I was traveling about 75 kmh.

Just past the road to Eganridge, I suddenly spot a large brown Owl in my lane. It had prominent large eyes.

I have not identified it completely but it is somewhat similar to the "Barred owl".

I immediately jammed on my brakes and directed my car onto the soft shoulder to avoid hitting it, only to have my car suddenly careen to the opposite side of the road.

I adjusted my steering wheel to straighten my car and within seconds it skidded and rolled off the road and down the ditch. My car came to a stop upside down.

Fortunately, there were some kind people who stopped to help me out and I was okay.

Both myself and the owl were lucky that night.
