Lost Robin

by Jan Burnett
(Waubaushene, Ontario, Canada)

On Sunday, January 16, 2011, Jon & I were walking onto the frozen lake near our home just outside of Waubaushene, Otario.

Jon stopped suddenly & said, "There's a Robin!".
In total disbelief, I said, "Where"?

He pointed to a small tree about 10 feet away from us & sure enough, it was a male robin!

I said, "that usually means the first sign of spring to me or did he forget to fly south?"

That is definitely the earliest I've ever seen a Robin!

Thanks for your report - it is more likely that this bird did not fly south with the other Robins in the fall, perhaps he was injured.

Lets hope he survives the winter here and welcomes the coming Spring with his lovely song!
