Large raptor east of Lakeside, Ontario

by Anonymous

Just east of Lakeside, on our way to London, we had to slow the car right down to allow a large raptor to take off northward from where it had perched on the ground.

Huge wingspan and a red head. Don't know what it was, an Eagle, I'd judge - but it was magnificent!

I'm so glad I moved to Southwestern Ontario!

Hi there, thanks for your message - I suspect what you saw was a Turkey Vulture, as they are moving back into our area, after wintering further south, so hopefully, you'll see lots of them, often gliding over trees and fields as they look for food - they are scavengers and don't kill their own food, but eat road-kill and other carrion.
