Cougar in Toronto?

by Mash
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

This picture looks closest to the animal I saw, in terms of shape and colour. I hope this helps.

Yesterday I saw an animal that looked much like a Mountain Lion. Historicaly, Mountain Lions have never been spotted in the city of Toronto. I am wondering as to what I might have seen.

It was minutes past 5:00 pm, close to sun-down and I was walking near Black Creek, on the west side of York University. It is the northern most part of the city of Toronto.

I am a nature enthusiast and often take a walk in the woods where I have seen other animals, larger migratory birds, song birds, a deer family and fox in the area.

The animal I saw yesterday had an appearance very much similar to a cat, only much larger. It seemed to be just under a metre long. It had a redish/browinsh/yellowish colour and almost seemed to be glowing. It was standing on top of the creek, but i did not see it drinking. It had a large round tail. It crouched and moved away.

I went back to the spot today hoping to photograph its tracks, but did not see any clear paw prints or any other signs.

I saw something similar, albeit slight smaller, last fall around the Warden Ave & Bamburg Circle area (Scarborough north).

Large cat spotted on April 6, 2012
by: Ravine Resident

Very similar sighting, around 5pm also, in Birkdale Ravine (Ellesmere Rd & Brimley Rd area of Scarborough), behind fence in backyard (backs onto ravine)...was definitely NOT a domestic cat, as it was much larger.

It was brownish-grey in colour. It took off as soon as it realized it had been seen. Very surprising for this area, known for silver/red Fox & at least one resident Coyote.

When was this seen? I just heard of someone seeing on in the woods near 401 and Yonge Street, Toronto?
