Coyote Sighting at Elgin Woods Park in Brampton
by: Anonymous

I saw a huge Coyote at Elgon Woods Park in Brampton around 1:30 pm. Just as I was walking my dog and going down the trail I saw the Coyote running next to an older gentleman and his dog. Seems like the Coyote was trying to be playful by trying to lure the dog to play with him. My dog is a senior dog so I quickly turned around and walked away. The Coyote did look big and I was afraid for my dog and the other dog getting hurt.

Saw a coyote as I was approaching the Stephen Llewellyn Trail, off Mintleaf Road in Brampton. I was with my 4 year old and 6 year old. My 4 year old spotted it. It did not approach us, it popped it head out and stared at us. We were far away enough that we could back away to the sidewalk and head the other way - away from the trail. This was around 10am in the morning on Aug 4, 2022.

My house backs onto Heart Lake off of Royal Palm. Around 12 am there were two coyotes on the outside of my fence. One was very large and the other small. They came right up to the fence and just walked by. My kids were sitting in our hot tub. Thankfully my two dogs were inside. I don’t think they could jump the fence but very scary nevertheless.

Chased by Coyote
by: Stephanie

I'm a dog walker in Brampton. I was walking my first clients of the day (two pugs and one French Bulldog). At 8:10 am this morning we were walking south on Mary Street just outside of the front entrance to Cardinal Leger Secondary School, when a Coyote and her pup crossed the street to where we were walking. They were about 100 m away. She spotted us and immediately started chasing after us. I quickly crossed the street and flagged a car down. The woman that stopped was amazing. She blared her horn and followed the Coyotes with her car to put distance between them and my dogs. I was able to get them safely back to their home unharmed. The Coyote might have been harmless and just defending her pup, but I was frightened none the less, and not willing to find out. Watching a Coyote chase after you is not something you can just shake off. I reported it to Animal Services, but they seemed pretty disinterested in it. Brampton needs to do something about this!

Please be safe! Carry a whistle and/or walking stick to frighten them off.

I have been noticing many posters in our Nieghbour hood of small missing dogs that have disappeared from backyards and no one has clued in on why their pets just ran off, if you are one of these pet owners these incidents should be reported because this is a serious matter.

On October 24, 2014 was the last time I saw my cat Emma, and never saw her again. I looked all over and put up signs. Spoke to some of the neighbors and was told that my cat wasn't the only one that has disappeared. Neighbors have seen a Coyote running around and one saw a Coyote with a cat in its mouth. What is the city going to do about this? We have small kids and I don't want anything to happen to them.
My poor cat that I loved for 8 years is now gone because of them.

Coyote spotted Main and Fredrick in Brampton
by: Lynn

On October 30th 2014 at 7:40 am, we saw what we thought was a coyote just on the other side of our fence. However, his legs were longer than a coyote and his ears were more pointed. We googled pictures of coyotes and coywolves, and confirmed by the pictures to resemble a coywolf. Many nights our 100 lb German Shepherd charges the fence aggressively ..... it's difficult to see what's on the other side due to the greenery that is still present. We are on continual alert.

Coyote Pack in Ridgehill Park
by: Anonymous

My girlfriend and I took our 50lbs German Shepherd cross on a midnight walk through Ridgehill Park not knowing there were coyotes anywhere besides White Spruce. We let her off leash to swim in the ravine and soon after heard her whelp and heard two coyotes bark at her (I thought they must be stray dogs at the time). We got her back to us and on leash but could hear them stalking us just out of sight huffing. Right as we got back to the street we heard maybe eight or ten howling and it sounded like they were attacking something (I thought it sounded like a small dog but I can't say with any certainty). I was never worried for my girlfriend and I (as I knew to make loud noises, not to run and that they rarely attack humans) but they did get a few graze marks on my dog's stomach and a small bite on her back leg.

Although the area backs onto considerable greenspace from several sides (Credit River, Storm water management system), I'm a bit concerned as to why this guy was on the sidewalk in front of houses :S

Coyotes in Heart Lake
by: The Sieben's

We live Sandalwood and Heart Lake Road, backing onto the ravine. Three weeks ago Sunday, a coyote jumped into our backyard and attacked one of our dogs. The coyote had our dog in his mouth but dropped him and jumped over the fence out of the yard when my husband ran into the backyard. Our dog wasn't seriously hurt but had a small cut on his throat, his neck was very swollen and he lost his voice for about two weeks. Luckily his shots were up to date.

Tonight, Feb 4th, the coyote came back. My husband was outside with the same dog, who started barking like crazy. My husband ran to the fence and the coyote was right there. After he yelled at him, the coyote moved slightly away from the house but stood watching him until he yelled again. He then moved slightly further away, still watching. Only when my husband yelled again did he go down into the brush behind the house. Obviously not very scared and hungry, looking for food.

I live by Mayfield and McLaughlin and spotted a Coyote last year, but I hear them howling frequently during the spring/summer season.

I'm not surprised that they are around as our area is very close to the forest and fields.

Coyote in St. Agnes Park / Moorehead Park
by: Debbie

March 15/12 8 AM Moorehead Park, my Husband was walking our dog on the walkway and a Coyote came from under the fence at Turnberry Golf Course.

The Coyote ran full tilt after my Dog. My Husband called our dog and she came to him. He yelled and waved his arms at the Coyote. The Coyote stopped and proceeded to follow my Husband while our dog was on the leash.

The Coyote came as far as the second ball diamond. I am very happy that there were no school children around because of the March break. We called Animal control and they dispatched an officer.

Please be aware because there are two Coyotes and they usually sit on the hill at the Golf Course.

by: Anonymous

We live in Heart lake as well, our house backs onto Whitespruce Park and this morning at about 5 am our dog was out in the backyard and he started barking.
Normally our dog doesn't bark very often but he wouldn't quit today.
I went downstairs to bring him back in the house and at the edge of the tree's was a Coyote.
The coyote made a playful leap forward as if to get our dog to chase him/her.
A farmer friend of ours says he has seen this first hand on the farm, the Coyote will lure the animal closer to it and other coyotes will attack the animal.
Still a pretty cool sighting.
Thank you for sending this report to us - your farmer friend is absolutely correct, this behaviour has been reported many times .... one Coyote will playfully encourage the dog to follow and play with him, while taking him closer to the rest of the family, who are waiting for dinner!

I've spotted a Coyote in Brampton, Ontario about 3 times in the past year and a half. I didn't even know we had these creatures here. I have a small dog (corgi, 22lbs). Should I be worried?

1st time (summer of 2010) - crossing Edenbrook Hill Drive going west at approximately 10pm, I believe he/she was headed over to the fountain area (streaming from the creek river just behind Bovaird and McLaughlin). Fairly large sized animal.

2nd time (mid October, 2010) - My Fiance and I were on our way to work when we saw a greyish colored Coyote crossing Airport Road just before Queen Street, once again headed west. This was around 7:30 in the morning.

3rd time (June 2011) - I was opening a window just before bed around 1:20am when I saw a small sized Coyote (maybe 20 pounds) running on the sidewalk on Edenbrook Hill Drive going north towards Sandalwood. By the time I got my smart phone to take a video, I was too late :(
