Turkey Vultures on the Niagara Escarpment

by Brad
(St. Catharines, Ont.)

One of our readers sent us this report of his sighting of Turkey Vultures - Sunday May 16, 2010, today my girlfriend and I went for a hike at Woodend. We decided to take the dog with us on our hike.

While on a trail looking down toward where Niagara College is, my ever aware pooch started to growl. I looked up and and just about parallel to us about 150 ft out atop the trees out there, were 3 large Turkey Vultures.

I said to my girlfriend, "Babe! did you see that?" She saw them too. A massive bird flying from one tree to another. I had no idea Turkey Vultures were anywhere around the Niagara Region.

At first I thought it was an Eagle, but upon closer inspection I could clearly see they were Turkey Vultures.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a camera with us to take a picture. Next week when we go, we will be bringing a camera.

Thanks, Brad, we'd love to see pictures if you can get any next week - just send them in to us and I will add them to this page.
