Possible Wolf sighting?

by K. L'Ecuyer
(Grimsby, Ontario)

A reader from Grimsby, Ontario, writes - I was driving my daughter to school on Regional Road eight, between Grimsby and Beamsville around 8:30 am on February 2nd, when I saw a large, sturdy animal rip across the road into an open field leading up toward the escarpment.

At first I thought it might be a very large Coyote, but the way it bolted and the strength and sturdiness of this animal, especially in the legs, made me think that this was a wolf right off.

The coloring was similar to the colouring of the grey wolf picture displayed on this web page.

I've seen Coyotes in Grimsby before and saw one in my back yard but this animal was much larger than that.
