Tundra Swans resting & feeding

Tundra Swans resting & feeding

These pictures were submitted by one of our readers who observed the migrating Tundra Swans at the Wildlife Management Area on Hacienda Road, Aylmer, on Saturday March 21st 2009.

There were groups of swans coming and going during the time I was there, the birds were wheeling and gliding overhead, seemingly oblivious to the many people who were in the observation hut watching them.

On Saturday, the daily bird count said that there were over 4,000 of the birds there resting on their long journey north to the Arctic.

On Sunday, the daily bird count recorded 4,500 swans at the viewing area.

Thank you John, for your great photographs - they are amazing. I'm sure lots of our readers will head to the Wildlife Management Area in Aylmer next Spring!

That's a lot of Swans
by: Dan

I knew that the Tundra swans travel through this area in spring, but I didn't know that there were so many of them - great picture!
