Fifty five dead sheep in three weeks in Grey County

(Grey County, Ontario, Canada)

October 2010 was not a good month for me or my sheep. They came day or night as many as 10 at once. We shot a few and it slowed them down, but if I wasn't watching for an hour, another sheep was dead.

Since then that problem has been solved. I became a hunter because of this and since then, November 2010 to March 2013 we have shot over 300 Coyotes in our area and honestly we haven't made a dent!

They are smart, brave and not scared of people.

Watch your pets, livestock, and kids please.

Cure for your sheep.
by: Anonymous

If you are a sheep farmer that is losing large amounts of sheep = $$$$ due to coyote problem. I have the solution for you. Hunting, killing or exterminating these intelligent rodents will not accomplish a thing. Coyotes are very smart and when they are being hunted and killed will mate even more to maintain their existence. Please email willyg72.sm@gmail.com for info.

Sheep wont survive long
by: Anonymous

Sorry, but if farmers refuse to get dogs and donkeys to protect their sheep, they can keep expecting dead sheep and loss of money for the rest of their lives. If a Coyote does not kill the sheep someone's dog will, or a bear, or bobcat, etc.

Are your initials M.G.? If so, I read the article in OFA a few years ago. There is a problem with Coyotes in this area also. We shot 94 this year.

Now you are making too much sense. Help from the province? Not likely! The MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) refuses to try and understand these critters and help the problem. All they say is there is no problem, it will take care of itself... until its too late I'm afraid.

Coyote predation of livestock
by: Anonymous

Could livestock farmers, possibly with the financial assistance of the provincial government, "coyote-proof" their fences? By eliminating livestock as a source of food, coyote numbers would drop accordingly.

We have shot over 300 in the past 5 years in this area (Wheatley, Ontario). Not much snow here for tracking. We hunt the same area day in and day out, approx. 7 X 5 miles.
Are you in the Mt. Forest area? We hunt ground hogs there three times a year. Doing that for 18 - 19 yr. now.
