Coyotes In The City - South Oshawa

by DeeSolo
(Oshawa, Ontario)

Tonight at approximately 10pm my son left to go to Rays' Smoke Shop, which is located at the end of our street on the west side of Simcoe St, just south of Ritson Rd.

As he was crossing Simcoe St, he saw three Coyotes sniffing around the Chip truck that is parked at the edge of the parking lot.

The truck is a popular fixture at the edge of the plaza housing Ray's Smoke Shop, a Tattoo parlor, Martial Arts Studio and an Auto Repair Shop.

This is a well populated area that remains quite busy with traffic as it is a direct route to Lakeview Park.

About 5 weeks ago I had tracks of a large dog just steps from my door (no human footprints at all) which is suspect, because the tracks did not come from the driveway or the sidewalk but from the alley separating the houses.

It makes sense because that's where we store the garbage bins.

I have been hearing them yelping since Spring 2010 and when one starts, a number of others chime in.

There have been many sightings at dusk very close to Lakeview Park and in the ravine areas surrounding it.

They are getting very brave and I caution people in this area to be very careful when out with their dogs or taking an evening walk.

I know that I won't be running out for my chocolate fix after dark at all anymore!

If anyone else has seen or heard Coyotes in south Oshawa please share your story.

Yes, the Coyotes are getting very bold, and are moving more and more, into urban areas.

Thanks for telling us about your sightings.

Scarrier things!
by: Mike M.

Encountering Coyotes in the south end of Oshawa 10pm at night would be the least of my worries!

saw one this morning
by: George

Driving south on Harmony, approaching Olive just before 8AM. A coyote passed me on the west side of Harmony, on the sidewalk. It was obviously spooked. It ran across Olive and up the 2nd or 3rd driveway on the south side.

Thorton Road
by: Anonymous

We live in a ravine lot off of Thorton Road ... our backyard faces Mount Lawn Cemetary,

We hear Coyotes often, but Thursday night was a bit different. The Coyotes sounded as if they were in the backyard.

We turned on our back porch lights and there were two Coyotes 30 feet away.

Tried to spook them by yelling and banging, however they seemed not to care.
