Can you tell me?

What kind of bird is this?

What kind of bird is this?

l like these birds, but have no idea the name of them. l know they dive deep in the water for fish and they are in the water at Hamilton Bayfront trails, Hamilton, Ontario. So, if you know, can you tell me what type these birds are.

Thanks for your submission and photo - I think these diving birds are Cormorants. If any of our readers can tell for sure what this bird is, please let us know using the comment form - thanks!

Yes, thats a Cormorant
by: John

It is a Cormorant and it is becoming the scourge of our great lakes. They like to sun after they dive as shown in the photo. On more than one occasion they have ruined a fishing trip by continually diving in the water near where I was fishing.

Thanks John, I thought it was a Cormorant - we don't see too many of them here on the north shore of Lake Erie near Port Stanley, but I know they have been a problem around the Toronto area.
