Bald Eagle on the Grand River in Fergus

December 15, 2013. I was photographing geese sleeping on the river ice today, when they suddenly started honking in alarm.

I looked up and a magnificent Bald Eagle flew slowly down the river.

I got a photo good enough to convince myself (and others) that it wasn't an Osprey.

The weather has been very cold and snowy with a big storm yesterday.

Do they hang out this far north all winter?

I posted the photo on the weather network web site.

We saw an Eagle flying above the Grand River. We were driving east on St Andrew Street, just past Garthshore. We just had to stop to watch. We are used to seeing Lake Ospreys and this bird was definitely not an Osprey!
