Coyote in Kitchener

This morning, about 7:55 am, February 22, 2011, I watched a Coyote prance through my yard and across the road into a greenspace across the street.

It stopped for a moment and pounded on the snow twice with it's front paws, then ate something that was in the snow and continued on.

At first I thought it was a stray dog, then when it pounded on the snow I realized that's something a domestic dog wouldn't do ..... and it didn't look like a breed of dog I'd seen before.

It was a beautiful creature, I'm glad I had the chance to see it.

Hi Sarah - what you have described is typical Coyote behaviour, prancing and leaping on small prey - probably some type of rodent, perhaps a mouse or vole.
